S/V Midnight Star

We are calling this the "Anything is possible" cruise. We have a concrete plan to address that theme with our next cruise. Our coordination with educators has received much more response than we expected. The biggest challenge we face in the future is a lack of awareness and interest. We are tackling that challenge by starting early. We want to bring an interest in the world around us to our children. We have designed a plan to do this by coordinating with many school districts. This is a totally interactive program where individual teachers may choose you use as much or as little of the information that we provide, to integrate into their classrooms. By learning of the world outside the continental US first hand, many school children may choose to explore futures that can impact us all. If there has been a benefit from the major hurricane season last year, it is that we know so much more about what the major causes of loss of life were, and how we can impact that successfully. By examining the vastly different results from Katrina and Rita, we find that the two major differences were in the areas of warning (and heeding that warning) and availability of relief assets. We have a plan to tackle both of these issues in preparation for further catastrophic weather events in the tsunami and hurricane zones. We provide a way for school children to feel that they can make a direct impact. We are only a couple years into a 15 year cycle of heavy weather, so the need will be with us for quite some time.

We are going to integrate many partners into this process including US Middle and High Schools, Medical Suppliers, Communication suppliers and of course the cruising community.
